General Manager, Bucharest National Opera
Răzvan Ioan Dincă is the General Manager of the Bucharest National Opera House, the main musical performing arts institution in Romania, since December 2012, and he succeeded so far in giving a new international perspective to the institution. Among the achievements of the institution under his management, so far: bringing in Bucharest, on several occasions, numerous Romanian artists who now activate in some of the most important opera and ballet theatres in the world, the national premiere of the ballet “La Sylphide” staged by Johan Kobborg, a new staging of the opera “Rigoletto”, directed by Stephen Barlow, the creation of the National Ballet Company of Romania as part of the Bucharest National Opera House, under the management of Johan Kobborg, the beginning of extensive renovation works for the building of the institution etc.
He graduated from the Theatre and Film Academy, with studies in Theatre Directing in 2001, with a Master’s Degree in the same field in 2006 and a PhD in 2010.
The early days of his professional activity are closely related to the city of Buzau (Romania), and to the “George Ciprian” Theatre, where he initially was an Artistic Councillor (2001-2002) and soon became General Manager (2002-2006). During this period of time he became involved in numerous large scale projects. He was also Project Manager and Director for the International Theatre Festival The New Generations Gala for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd edition, at the “George Ciprian” Theatre in Buzau (2003, 2005 and 2006).
Starting with August 2006, he was the General Manager of the National Operetta Theatre “Ion Dacian” in Bucharest. During the time he was manager, this institution built a fresh repertoire, with very successful operetta and musical productions, staged both by directors in Romania and abroad. In addition, in the same time frame, the institution knew one of the most important achievements in its 60 years of existence: after numerous efforts, the institution managed to obtain the funds and land for building, for the first time in history, its own performing hall, designed especially for its needs; the new hall is scheduled to be ready this year.
Since 2008, he is also General Manager for the annual International Festival for Musical Performing Arts Life is Beautiful!, which reached its 6th edition in November 2013. In the time frame 2009-2012, he was the project manager for the strategic European Social Fund Project Support for Skills Improvement in the Romanian Performing Arts – SCENART, developed in partnership with Accademia Teatro alla Scala in Milan. In the period 2010-2012, he was an advisor for the President of the Romanian Broadcasting Society.
In 2012, he was offered the “Pro Cultura Hungarica” award by the Hungarian Government for the extraordinary contribution to the development of the cultural collaboration between Romania and Hungary.
Since 2013, given that the National Operetta Theatre “Ion Dacian” became a company of the Bucharest National Opera House following a Government Decision, he is also in charge of the management of the former, now entitled the Theatre of Operetta and Musical “Ion Dacian”.
He also has a very rich artistic experience, with numerous theatre, opera, operetta and musical productions directed so far in Bucharest and across the country. To only mention a few:
