Born in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Déborah Cheyne has been a professional violist for over 30 years.
In 1987, she won a scholarship at the University of Iowa where she studied for five years with Professor William Preucil. While in the U.S., she performed as a violist for the “Cedar Rapids Symphony Orchestra”.
Upon returning to Brazil, she joined the “OSB – Orquestra Sinfônica Brasileira” (Brazilian Symphony Orchestra) and since then, she travels with different groups performing classical and popular music.
Frequently, Déborah participates in recordings as a violist and recruiter as well.
Miss Cheyne began her Union activities in 1999 and in 2005, she became the President of the “SindMusi – Sindicato dos Músicos do Estado do Rio de Janeiro” (Musicians’ Union of the State of Rio de Janeiro) where she remains to this day.
Currently, Déborah is the Vice-President of the CGTB (General Workers Trade Union) national board , and is also part of the “FIM – International Federation of Musicians” Executive Committee, as a Vice-President.
