62 years old. Associate Director of the Theatre de l’Est Lyonnais (1976-1977). General Manager of the Atelier Lyrique du Rhin (1978-1982). Founder and Director of the Musica Festival in Strasbourg, an event dedicated to contemporary music (1982-1986). Artistical Director of IRCAM (Institute of Musical Research and Creation, associated to the Pompidou Center) from 1987 until 1997, he subsequently became its General Director (1992-2001), when Pierre Boulez retired from that position.
Managing Director of the Cité de la musique since 2001, and also of Salle Pleyel. In 2006, at the request of the government and of the city of Paris, he is also appointed Chairman of the Philharmonie de Paris, a concert hall located in the Parc de la Villette and built by the architect Jean Nouvel, which will feature a symphony hall of 2 400 seats and different spaces devoted to educational activities for young people, at its official opening in 2015.
